Project Site

The proposed project is located on the east side of Hecate Strait, west of Stephens Island. The wind energy field at this location harbours some of the strongest, most-consistent winds in the world.

The wind turbines for the project would be positioned offshore, west of Stephens Island in Lax Kw’alaams and Metlakatla First Nation territory. Oceanic Wind in partnership with Coast Tsimshian Enterprises have jointly applied for an Investigative Use Permit (IUP) in the described area. This application was accepted on Dec 27, 2024 and the public comment period ended on Feb 12, 2025.

The Project will be connected to the mainland at the Prince Rupert Substation near Prince Rupert, via submarine cables. The area offers the strong and consistent winds and suitable waters and seabed characteristics needed to accommodate offshore wind turbines. The figure below shows the coordinates for the IUP study area.
